Lumenbrite Cafe was sold to a gent from Chicago for millions of dollars and free coffee privileges back in October 2007. The new cafe, named the Percolator, has removed the computer lab and expanded the seating area with new tables, chairs and a ton of couches. I don't know if the menu will change much, but we'll have to see in the next few months.

We did open Le Squirrel Cafe (for reals) in the back of the Memorial Park Library at the start of 2008. It's a pretty cool place surrounded by trees and stuff. Keep posted for new changes to this blog. I was considering changing this blog into a student forum for questions and instructor feedback. Sorry, no more movies for now. Maybe at Le Squirrel...
Just an update. We have decided what to show...
The first will be Zombi by Lucio Fulci.
The second will be a Troma Film, The Toxic Avenger. Check out a trailer!
Oops. The Halloween Film Fest newsletter, previous blog posting and MySpace posting should have said Halloween Film Fest 2007, not 2008. Come this year!
Ok, it's here. The Halloween Film Fest at Lumenbrite Cafe. It will probably be the last. You can check out full detail at this event here: Film Fest Site

I am torn as to what to show for the movies, but I will decide as soon as I review a few more flicks. I don't want to put up anything that will leave my carpet puked on and no more Meet the Feebles. I thought it was good...ok not that good.

Be sure to come dead - paint up your face and come ragged. Vampires, zombies and bludgeoned hobos welcome!
I was in Chicago and went to visit Intelligentsia. They graced me with a Roasting Works tour of their facility and it was super cool. I never realized what a precise science this was. Intelligentsia has perfected this science and we are very proud to serve their fresh roasted coffee here at Lumenbrite!

Squirrel Cafe?
The Memorial Library Cafe will soon be born. In fact we even have an event scheduled for late September. The good guys at EP Film are having the Good, Bad and the Indie, film fest at the new cafe overlooking the park. Really cool place - feels kinda like Central Park in NYC, without New York. Keep posted on this event.
We have one month to prep this cafe for the public; pulling forces together to make it happen. We will probably name it Lumenbrite Cafe, but since it is at the park I was thinking of naming it the "Squirrel Cafe" or something related to the park. Maybe the "Hobo Coffee Place" or something - but not really - maybe.
The cafe site has changed...back, sort of, to the original look from three years ago. Check out our new logo too - a work in progress for over three years now.

We are going under some major design changes and cleaning things up. A new menu board - finally. Also expect some really neat stuff in the cafe - from a fresh bakery to even more meal selections and a very chill (not sloppy) cafe environment. I may even fix the video game.

Have any recommendations? I'd love to hear them.
Surprise!
Lumenbrite is proud to announce that we now have ice cream for sale. Blue Bunny bars...You can dip them in coffee or eat them after a sandwich. Delicious!

Yesssss. We are opening a new branch of Lumenbrite Cafe inside of the Memorial Park Library. The estimated date should be July 1, if all goes well. This is an awesome location with big trees, lots of green grass and a great library. I will put up some pictures in our Flickr account very soon. Along with having the usual great drinks, ice cream, and food stuffs, we hope to have small concerts, movie nights, tournaments and a bunch of other neat events. If anyone is interested in coordinating their event, shoot an email to cafe@lumenbrite.com.
Every once and awhile we get celebrity in the cafe.

Our drink menu has been enhanced recently by our new selection of soda pops. Our selection ranges from satisfying the most classic tastes to the most exotic ones. We have classic pops like the Vanilla Cream Soda or Orange Cream Soda, sophisticated drinks like our costumer favorite Orangina, unconventional carbonated drinks like the Cricket Cola, which combines Cola and Green Tea to deliver a pleasant surprise, and some of the most exotic drinks out there like the counter-cultural Skeleteens Company, who have been a cult bottling company for over ten years.

We invite to stop by and treat your self. We guarantee you that we have something to satisfy your unique taste.

The last week of my film fest is October 27th, 2006. Make plans to attend. I always get people saying "oh I would have love to have gone, but I had to do..." Here's your chance, it only comes once per year! Bring your friends, some booze and eat some snacks. It's all what you make of it. This event is not intended to bring the cafe wealth and fame. This event is put on as a...customer appreciation effort.

Where else can you go to a neat little theatre in El Paso, with beer, have some snacks and watch a movie that you've probably never seen before. Just remember not to take these movies too seriously. Many of them have a history that was dramatic, some were banned and perverse for their time. So if the corny 70ish themes in movies like "I Drink Your Blood" bother you because they are outdated - relax! It's just for fun! Enjoy life, enjoy the film fest - it is here and gone tomorrow.

Our new video game up front in the cafe has been a great luxury the past few weeks here Lumenbrite. From Donkey Kong to RType to Rastan (remember that one???), nothing beats the old school arcade games when they are played on a real arcade cabinet!

For our Halloween Film Fest this year, I loaded up "Chiller"...a game I hadn't seen before. Too much for a kids eyes, this game has a lot of mulitlation, torture, blood and 256-colors of pure gore. We played it the other night at the first Film Fest till we finally got to the third stage. It was tough. This game is a shooting gallery where you shoot flying bats, ghosts, tortured bodies, decapitatated heads and even set off torture devices like the rack and a head vice. You hear agony and screams - pretty messed up stuff.

It has inspired me to buy a light gun that looks like a little colt 45 (I think) for our little Mame cabinet - It has been too difficult to use the joystick to aim. If you stop by for the Film Fest it'll probably be on, otherwise during the day I think it's too much for some.

On Friday October 6, he held the first Halloween Film Fest showing, Tromeo & Juliet. I don't think we have had a better time. Well, maybe last year a few times...Anyway next week is the showing of "I Drink Your Blood." A great movie.

It was great having the bj Hashers this year and all the WTC'ers. We hope to see you at the next showing. It'll be friday the 13th - not the movie - the movie is "I Drink Your Blood."
